Brunch at MNKY-HSE

MNKY HSE is nestled on Dover Street, Mayfair, just a hop, skip and jump from Jimmy Choo and Christain Louboutin (should you fancy some post champagne shopping). Instantly recognizable with the charcoal outbuilding and imposing brass monkey door handes, I’m a sucker for a strong logo.

We were directed down to the lower floor, which is home to the ‘Lounge Bar’ a world away from the bustling streets and into a softly lit but elaborate dining area. The live DJ was playing a suitably atmospheric set and I glanced around the room, admiring the beautiful clientele and pondering my outfit choice. There’s something about a Londoners style which is just so right, I felt ‘put together’ when I left Northampton. When I’d arrived in London I realised I looked not unlike a sack of potatoes, you can take a girl out of Northampton…

Despite being distracted by the decor, we settled down with a chilled glass of champagne and considered what we were going to order from the brunch menu.

One aspect I would like to point out is that the prices are extremely reasonable for the area, it’s important to me when I’m reviewing venues to recommend places that are achievable for everyone to visit.

After careful consideration, I chose the MNKY waffles and Graeme opted for the savoury option of Huevos Rotos.

My waffle was just right, not at all stodgy or sickly sweet, the cranberries were perfectly balanced with the syrup and creme fraiche. Graeme’s Heuvos Rotos was a mix of eggs, smoked salmon, potatoes and a creamy avocado sauce. The service at MNKY HSE was exceptional, fast, friendly and we were made to feel welcome, this might not be important to everyone, but it is to me.

If you’re looking for a Sunday social, the extensive drinks menu caters to every taste, including a selection of mocktails and none alcoholic options. Due to the loud music, this isn’t the venue for a long overdue catch-up, on the other hand, it’s only a 10-minute walk from Oxford Street, making it the ideal venue to escape/refresh from the hustle and bustle.

Worth noting:

*MNKY HSE is extremely popular, booking in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment and you can do this via the website.

*The lighting is atmospheric, so if you’re looking for the ideal Instagram opportunity consider this in advance. We took most of these pictures using a Pixel 2, which was excellent in low lighting; for my sassy readers, the staircase is your best bet. Unless you pretty much fall up it, like me…

*Next time I visit I’ll order the pancakes with a side of bacon, I don’t feel the need to explain my reasoning, you know it makes sense.

*Brunch is served Sunday 12-4pm – Prices start at £7.50 – For information of dining and events check out the website.

Have you brunched anywhere fabulous lately? I’m always looking for recommendations…

Katie
