A few weeks back, I was kindly invited to review Bills Restaurant at Rushden Lakes. If there’s one thing that’ll never fail to make me happy, it’s food and/or dining out. I don’t think I could ever tire of lovingly reading menus, letting my mind explore the possibility of what might turn up. Alongside living in fear of ordering the wrong dish.

Then, there’s the wait, a chance to enjoy a drink and catch up with whomever I have the pleasure of dining with. They say that you should marry the person that gives you the same excited feeling you get as the waiter arrives with your food. I think it could well be true you know.

We decided to order some none alcoholic drinks because I’m not a huge drinker (and was driving) and my sister is heavily pregnant.

I ordered – “Shrub It Off” Somerset raspberry, blackberry & honey shrub with raspberry syrup finished with lemonade (please try this, its fabulous) and Sarah ordered an “Elderflower Cordial” .

Because we’ve both got a serious sweet tooth, we skipped starters and dived straight into the main course…

ROASTED BUTTERNUT SQUASH AND FETA RISOTTO 
with baby spinach & courgette, topped with a shredded fennel salad & toasted pumpkin seeds

This was absolutely delicious, I LOVE Risotto as it’s the perfect comforting dish, the flavors and the generous serving size was perfect. Bills donate 50p every time this meal is purchased to Mental Health UK which is their chosen charity.

WARM CHICKEN SALAD WITH TURMERIC AND FREEKAH 
Grilled chicken breast with spinach, Gordal olives, pickled red onions, chilli flakes, toasted almonds, aubergine & red pepper & kimchi dressing. Served with grilled flat bread

Sarah’s plate appeared piled high with majestic gordal olives, a plentiful serving of chicken and I couldn’t keep my eyes away from her flatbread. This is the perfect dish for someone wanting to dine in a healthy but sustaining way.

Sure I eat my feelings, but I save the emotional roller coaster for dessert.

WARM APPLE AND SALTED CARAMEL DOUGHNUTS 
Tossed in apple sugar & served with fresh apple slices, fudge pieces & a salted caramel dipping sauce

If there’s one thing that’s always going to bring a smile to my face, it’s warm sugar-coated doughnuts. Add apples and warm salted caramel dipping sauce? Absolute heaven, I’d return for this alone!

WARM BLACKBERRY, APPLE AND GINGER CRUMBLE 
Dusted with icing sugar & served with custard & vanilla ice cream

Crumble is just one of those desserts that goes directly to the heart and coupled with custard and icecream it takes on a whole new level. I snuck a scoop of the crumble (for review purposes) and it was absolutely scrumptious. If you don’t fancy doughnuts, please make this crumble your next choice.

Bill’s Restaurant is open all day long and provides casual dining suitable for families, social events, date night and just a catch up over a delicious meal. It’s really important for me to make suggestions about places I genuinely love because I want you to have a great experience. Whilst I was kindly invited on a review basis, this is a venue I’ve chosen to dine at over the past year and I’ve never been disappointed with the food or service.
