Training For The 3 Peaks Challenge – Featuring Simply Hike

They say that time flies when you’re having fun, a few months back I wrote my first post about training for ‘The 3 Peaks Challenge’ and as the days pass, the challenge draws closer. I’m feeling a whole mix of emotions, excitement, anticipation and curiosity about what to expect. Also with the variable UK weather, the challenge could bring one extreme or another.

During the past few months, I’ve continued to mix up my training and we spent a wonderful day in Gloucester, walking 14 miles, stopping for a picnic, snacks or to admire the view. It gave us an opportunity to meet with other people taking on the challenge, test out our new walking boots and enjoy our snacks in scenic places. Alongside this, we’ve been walking locally, I’ve also entered another 10km race and I’m starting to feel confident that my fitness is returning.

With the signs of spring finally showing and the longer days, what could be better than spending a weekend in the great outdoors? Mixing evenings at the campsite, staring at the stars and days out exploring what your location has to offer. Whilst we’ll be sleeping in a minibus whilst taking part in our challenge, Simply Hike stock a huge range of Vango tents for a more comfortable experience.

On the subject of kit, I was kindly sent thisBerghaus – Hydroshell Light Trekking Jacket‘, which offers features such as:

  1. Storm level protectionWho knows what weather we’ll experience during our adventure?

  2. HydroshellWaterproof, breathable and comfortable

  3. Lightweight designI don’t want to be weighed down carrying a cumbersome coat.

  4. Odour resistant Argentium technology with moisture managementIdeal as I’m going to be walking for several hours and unable to shower.

  5. Packing sack Perfect for compressing the jacket, ensuring I save space in my rucksack.

I felt that the colour fits in with my other kit perfectly, whilst making a refreshing change from pink and still ensuring I’m going to be seen and comfortable whilst on the move.

Another useful piece of kit is this The North Face, Reaxion Amp Crew Tee as much as I love sportswear, one item that was missing from my wardrobe was a great t-shirt. Ideal for those ‘in-between’ weather days, when a vest feels too exposed but a base layer is a little too toasty.

On the subject of being warm, I’ve absolutely loved this sudden and unexpected heatwave here in the UK – I’ve made the time to walk to work and run back, which is not only beneficial for my training but also my piece of mind. I’m thankful for what a great impact being outdoors had on not only my mood but my overall well being, I don’t think we should ever underestimate the power of the fresh air, some time to think and the power of just a simple walk around the block.

So, what do my next few months of training have in store? I’m visiting the Wye Valley in Wales and can’t wait to explore the area by foot as much as possible. Then, we are going to escape to the Peak District to explore the spend the day taking on some of the most popular routes in the area. Don’t worry, I’ll be sharing my adventures with you along the way!

Are you enjoying this warm weather? Have you any camping trips planned?
