Staying at – St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel London

There has been many a time I’ve strolled past The St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. A vast imposing building situated near one of the busiest stations in London. Then, with the great fortune of knowing the right person (Thank you Kim) we got the opportunity to spend the night whilst visiting London.

St. Pancras Renaissance is a Luxe 1873 Gothic Revival hotel in a train station, with fine dining, a spa, and a pool. Made famous for being the setting for The Spice Girls – Wannabe, alongside being featured in Batman Begins and Harry Potter.

The first impressions as you enter the hotel are far from disappointing, expect ornate displays, speedy check-in service, and a large bar/seating area. Although, once you’re checked in, depending on which room your located in. You simply must ask for directions to the infamous staircase, after all, did you even visit without getting that picture?

We stayed in a standard room, which was a comfortable size, with a lovely generous sized bath. Because I love to unwind after a busy day in the city (that makes me sound so cosmo, when I’m not!). You can expect all the standard extras that make everything that little bit more comfortable. Such as huge fluffy robes, fabulous toiletries, complimentary bottled water, decent coffee, and biscuits to nibble on. These might not matter to everyone, but they matter to me!

After spending the day scooting around London; we decided to be sensible and dine closer to the hotel. Fortunately, being next to Kings Cross and St Pancras, traveling was/is a doddle. On the other hand, the menu at Plum and Spilt Milk had caught our eye, with the added bonus of only being a two-minute walk away from the hotel.

We decided on the Festive Menu which was great value at £43.50 for 3 courses. Whilst enjoying our drinks, we enjoyed fresh sourdough and salted butter, this might sound petty, but I do pre-judge a meal on how good the bread and butter is. Fortunately, for the Plum and Spilt Milk, it was delicious and I followed up with the Broccoli soup with Ticklemore cheese & walnuts.

Whilst the soup was delicious and flavorsome, my main of pan-fried gnocchi, with woodland mushrooms, baby spinach, chestnut, and parsley pesto. Was slightly underwhelming, more pesto would have made a considerable improvement.

Not to worry though, I’m easily won over by a decant dessert and the dark chocolate mousse, honeycomb & mulled wine poached pear was extremely moreish.

Whilst London is a jewel box of fantastic places to eat. Plum and Spilt Milk is perfect if you’re staying in the area and fancy reasonably priced delicious food. As for the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel? I would love to stay there again. Although, skip breakfast at the hotel and zip to Granger & Co for the best eggs and hotcakes in town!
