I Spent The Day Exploring London Bridge

For those of us not from the Capital City, exploring London can feel like a daunting task and as a none Londoner, I’m here to help. So, if you find yourself looking for hotels in London Bridge read on to find out how I spent the day exploring and eating my way around the area.

All great adventures should start with breakfast and a strong coffee (or tea!) with this in mind I headed to “The Breakfast Club” and it didn’t disappoint. I ordered a stack of pancakes with blueberries and lemon compote, amazingly this was not only vegan but also gluten-free. Whilst waiting for my food, I spied huge English breakfasts, waffles and butties stuffed with all the good stuff.

Breakfast is served until 12pm and I’d recommend booking on the weekends.

My next point of call was Southwark Cathedral, I was drawn in by the impressive architecture and beautifully kept gardens. Throughout the year the Cathedral hosts exhibitions by local artists, schools and members of the congregation, they do ask that you buy a guide (£1) and be respectful if you wish to take photos.

A visit to London Bridge wouldn’t be complete without visiting Borough Market, expect to be drawn in by the aromas of the street food, then you should give in to temptation and follow up with something from the vast selection of sweet treats. Plus, the market isn’t just about street food, there’s a fine selection of juices, wine, cheese, meat, and fresh blooms.

Every Thursday and Friday there’s a “Demo Kitchen” between 1-2.30pm providing free recipe demonstrations from top chefs, using local market produce.

I decided to take a stroll along The Thames and within 10 minutes I had stumbled upon Hay’s Galleria which is the most stunning venue for a spot of retail therapy, coffee or food. Even if you don’t need to shop or eat, might I suggest spending a moment admiring the magnificent sculpture called “The Navigators”?

If you find yourself looking for somewhere to work, enjoy a coffee, cocktail or delicious food, I firmly recommend visiting Grind. This venue was buzzing with the hum of meetings, laptops and increased energy levels from the strong black coffee (or maybe that was just me). Whilst I don’t follow a vegan diet, I really enjoyed this roasted vegetable salad with tahini and would firmly recommend it as a light lunch.

It wouldn’t be a guide on London Bridge without mentioning one of the most famous buildings in London, which of course is The Shard. You can book a view at the very top, alternatively, I’ve previously visited The Shard and taken an early Yoga class whilst watching the sunrise over the city, which is pretty special,

There’s various restaurant’s and bar’s at the shard, however, I loved GONG which is “The highest bar in London” and serves incredible cocktails.

London Bridge is a truly fantastic area to spend the day, there’s a vast selection of places to eat and drink, plus family-based thrills such as The London Bridge Experience, Globe Theatre or event a boat trip. Next time I’d book ahead and visit Sky Gardens too, alongside this, I’d also pack my running kit and enjoy a leisurely run along the Thames.
