Home Bar & Kitchen, Ickenham – Review

One cannot think well, love well, sleep well if one has not dined well.” ― Virginia Woolf

One of the few things in life that brings me endless pleasure is food, alongside good conversation and with this in mind, I upgraded my typical Monday lunchtime with a visit to Home Bar & Kitchen in Ickenham.

Like all good plans, I felt that cocktails would be a good place for us to start…

Cocktails, on Monday lunchtime I hear you ask? – Well, you only live once…

Home Bar & Kitchen have a huge array of cocktails and more recently Gin Infusions, meaning that almost every taste is catered for. I chose ‘Le Citron Rose’ which was a vibrant mix of house-infused Citron Vodka, homemade raspberry syrup, lemon juice, rosemary syrup and topped with my weakness, prosecco. Lorraine opted for ‘Tiki Tango’ which was Cherry rum mixed with mango vodka and shaken with lime juice, pineapple juice & lemongrass gomme, topped off with ginger ale.

Whilst cocktails are always the right starting point the main reason we were visiting was to enjoy a delicious meal so after the pleasure (and pain, because I can’t eat everything) of viewing the main, bar and specials menu, we finally settled on our food choices.

“I always want to find the best burger in town…”

I was quickly presented with a pillowy soft bun, stuffed with a very generous serving of pulled pork, in a rich BBQ sauce with a side of skinny fries and apple ‘slaw, it was the perfect marriage of flavors and my plate was cleared in almost record time.

My friend Lorraine is Gluten Intolerant, whilst at some venue’s this can seriously limit the menu, Home Bar & Resturant couldn’t have been more accommodating by offering various Gluten Free suggestions. Plus there was also a whole variety of naturally Gluten Free options too. She opted for a flatbread pizza, topped lovingly with homemade chorizo, roasted peppers, rocket and shaved parmesan, admittedly I was occupied by my burger but I did get a little distracted at times, can you blame me?

There are 3 little words I LOVE hearing together, and they are ‘Peanut.Butter.Brownie’  without a shadow of a doubt, my favorite food’s had a glorious love affair and produced something so very delicious. As a matter of fact, I demand you change your evening plans and give this a try.

For her dessert, Lorraine choose a Panna Cotta, the Italian classic is perfectly Gluten-free and something that you simply can’t go wrong by choosing, plus it’s an ideal dessert if you’re looking for something a little lighter to round up lunch.

I was thrilled to be invited to Home Bar & Kitchen, if I’m ever in the area I’ll be returning without a shadow of doubt.  The service was excellent, the decor is stylish and Instagram worthy, plus there are still many delicious sounding mains I’d love to try.
