Chocolate Protein Doughnuts
I’m sure everyone can relate to the fact that sometimes, you just want a doughnut and when that craving comes? It’s tough to ignore. When I found myself in this predicament, I had two options, 1) head to the shops or 2) use my TRR Nutrition Pea Protein and bake delicious doughnuts at home.
Historically, Vegan protein powder has been tainted with the reputation of having a bitter aftertaste, making it a less desirable choice. However, TRR Nutrition have created a blend that contains over 20g of protein per serving sourced from peas, pumpkins, and sunflowers. With a rich chocolate flavour, smooth mix, and absolutely zero bitter aftertaste.
But why protein doughnuts?
I’ve recently changed up my training and nutrition, which means in simple terms I need a slightly higher daily protein intake. Coupled with the fact I have a seriously sweet tooth!
Why should I try TRR Nutrition over another company?
TRR Nutrition is scientifically formulated by a professional sports nutritionist and sports health specialist for high-performance athletes. This meant that not only was it was the perfect way for me to get my chocolate fix. I could also hit my protein goals for the day using a high-quality product formulated for everyday folk like me, but with the approval of a performance specialist.
How else can I support my body whilst training?
Now, of course, I’m not an expert but it’s important to listen to the messages that your body is giving you. Allow for rest days, as they are a critical part of the training cycle, alongside eating a balanced diet and if you’d like to supplement that, try collagen. TRR PRO is advanced collagen in a daily liquid sports supplement that is scientifically formulated by a professional sports nutritionist and sports health specialist for high-performance athletes who push their bodies to the limit.

Shall we now focus our attention on making doughnuts?
The best thing about these doughnuts is the fact they are oven-baked using a silicone baking tray and can be ready in less than 20 minutes. Alongside being nutritionally balanced, so you could enjoy them as a snack or even as breakfast?
With all that said, shall I crack on and share how to make these delicious doughnuts? Don’t worry, I’ve included vegan options too!
Chocolate Protein Doughnuts
You will need…
40g Super Fine Oats
35g TRR Protein Powder
10g Cocoa Powder
125ml Milk (I used Almond Milk)
Half a teaspoon baking powder
1 Whole egg (or one flax egg*)
Pinch of salt
20g Icing Sugar (if required, I used natural Erythritol Icing and added cocoa powder and sprinkles)
Method
Start by preheating your oven to 180 degrees, then in a large mixing bowl add all your oats, protein powder, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Then give this a quick mix until everything is nicely combined.
Now whisk the egg in a separate bowl, measure out the milk and add both of these to the dry mix and whisk until a smooth batter forms. Pour or spoon the mix into the doughnut baking tray and oven bake for 10-15 minutes. Allow to cool and ice (if required – or a dusting of icing sugar is nice too!) or even just eat then plain!
Note: To make a flax egg, mix one tablespoon ground flaxseed meal with three tablespoons of water. Mix together, and let sit in your fridge for 15 minutes to set up and thicken.
Enjoy!
