Active Travel – As a couple…

Well, hasn’t this year just flown by? It feels like only yesterday we were welcoming in 2018 and wondering what adventures it would bring. Now all of a sudden its peak holiday season and all I can think about is my next adventure.

Taking a well-deserved break is as important for your relationship, as it is your overall health and well-being. From working out together to going on new adventures or even just enjoying the sunset in silence side by side.

Have you ever considered booking a cruise? It’s the perfect opportunity to explore several locations, spend some time relaxing and Marella Cruises offer amazing activities and lots of great programmes onboard and fun excursions ashore – they really have something for everyone.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that when my Husband and I travel, we nearly always include a variety of activities whilst we’re away. I’ve popped together 5 ways that you can stay active, whilst having fun and enjoying each others company whilst traveling:

  1. Take to the water: Couple’s Kayaking or Swimming

Whilst the idea of Kayaking might not have ever crossed your mind before, what could be a better way to reconnect by trying something new on holiday? From the amazing activities and plethora of programmes on-board to the exciting excursions ashore – Marella Cruises have something for everyone.

If you need to melt your stress, there’s no better way than getting to the water. Research shows that even just looking out to a flowing river or sea waves releases stress-busting.

  1. Start the day with a couple’s workout…

With a running track and gym, there’s no excuse not to work up an appetite for breakfast using the facilities the ship has to offer. Marella Cruise ships are the perfect ‘safe haven’ for you to kick start or maintain your health and wellness regime.

Exercising with your partner is a proven way to get more out of your workout because of the emotional support and motivation from a little healthy competitiveness.

3. Try New Experiences: Climb Together

What could be more exciting than experiencing a true sea view from the dizzy heights of an on-board climbing wall? Plus, how many people can say that they went climbing whilst relaxing on a cruise ship?

Have fun and don’t be afraid to tap into your inner child.

  1. Fuel your relationship: Tank up on feel-good, fresh food

Personally, being on holiday gives me an opportunity to relax my eating and discover new foods. To get your happy-healthy holiday boost, tank up on food rich in serotonin, the neurotransmitter that creates a calming sense of happiness. Fancy letting your hair down for a date night? The wide selection of bars and restaurants means that chances are, you’ll find whatever takes your fancy.

Eat mood-boosting foods including eggs, fruits, vegetables, legumes, wholegrain cereals, nuts, and seeds.

  1. Spend More Time Together

Health and wellness aren’t just important for your personal well-being, it’s important for your relationship too. From working out together, going on new adventures and laughing through it to enjoying the sunset in silence side by side, you’ll feel such a connection with your partner.

A unique shared experience increases a sense of closeness and intimacy with your partner because you’ve discovered and grown together by sharing an interest special to you.

Now, that all sounds great but surely it needs to be put to the test?

This year, Marella Cruises has teamed up with celebrity couple and health & well-being fanatics, Frankie and Wayne Bridge to showcase the ease and accessibility of keeping in ship shape on holiday. Frankie & Wayne have worked closely with the staff on-board to devise their own unique fitness itinerary, proving that keeping ship shape onboard is a breeze! They felt that the service & atmosphere on board was second to none and it was the perfect balance of relaxation, staying in shape and enjoying a change of scene.

Where are you heading on your travels this year? Do you stay active whilst away?

Katie
