Protein bread is something I’ve been meaning to try for a long time; I was staying realistic with my expectations, I knew it could go one way or another and I was hoping that it wouldn’t have any dry or sweet characteristics.
However I needn’t have felt apprehensive as on the vital ‘taste test’ I was very impressed, firstly it tasted like ‘real bread’ and I know that sounds strange but I like my food to taste, like real food. Secondly this is a very heavy and filling bread, it has a high protein and carb content and comes in at 150 calories a slice.
Should you find yourself reading that and thinking ‘Hmmm, that’s very high calorie bread’ please keep in mind that one slice is very substantial. In my personal opinion it’s better to have once slice of protein bread and feel satisfied than eating 5 rice cakes and then feeling like you could eat another 5 rice cakes 30 minutes later.
The enormous selling point for me, was the fact the high calorie and protein content meant that I found this very sustaining on long run’s (see my half marathon training update here) not once have I had to ‘refuel’ at a certain mileage point.
If you need a little more convincing, I will be 100% honest and say I was so impressed with this bread a week after starting the loaf I was sent to review by ‘My Protein’ I brought another loaf myself. The bread keeps well and freezes well, I tend to freeze in bags of two slices so I have some on demand.
The bread is on offer right now at £2.99 and will soon be going up in price, I have noticed that ‘My Protein’ often have offer’s on so it’s unlikely you’ll buy just the bread. Not that I’m encouraging you to go food shopping, oh wait, I am…
Have you ever tried protein bread before? Please tell me I’m not alone in loving the simple pleasure that is warm bread with real salty butter?
I was sent the bread to review, but all opinions are my own and as mentioned this is a product I liked enough to buy again.
